Model Town Ordinance

Preserve Washburn County has created a model ordinance template for towns to address camping in private campgrounds. The goal of the ordinance is to manage campground growth in a way that provides opportunities for camping while protecting the Northwoods and preserving the rural character of our communities. This ordinance:

  • Limits campgrounds to a reasonable size.

  • Prevents abuse of campsites as full-time or seasonal residences.

  • Establishes a permitting process for campgrounds

  • Collects an annual per-site usage fee to ensure campgrounds pay for town roads and emergency services they use

Local Ads

To get the word out quickly about a campground moratorium for Washburn County, Preserve Washburn County is placing paid ads in the Spooner Advocate and Wild Rivers North Advertiser. We will continue to run ads for as long as the Zoning Committee and full County Board of Supervisors are considering up-or-down votes on this matter. This isn't super-expensive, but it also isn't free. You can help keep these ads running by contributing to our ad campaign.
